Hi, I’m Liz Shepard

For over a decade, I’ve supported institutions in building care-centered systems that strengthen student success and retention through strategic program design and community-centered leadership. My work sits at the intersection of education, leadership development, and organizational culture, where I translate ideas into sustainable initiatives and measurable impact.

But before any of that, I’ve always been a helper. Someone who watches, learns, and then acts.

Growing up in a working-class family as a first-generation college student, I learned early how to navigate systems that weren’t always built for people like me. In college, leadership wasn’t something I stumbled into. I stepped into it fully, creating change in the spaces I was part of. Those experiences shaped me, but they also introduced me to perfectionism and the pressure of being a high achiever. Over time, I’ve learned that excellence without alignment can come at a cost, especially to your well-being.

I became a Rebel when I started speaking up for what’s right. When I noticed how people who looked like me were often excluded, overlooked, or left out of knowledge and opportunity by design. I’ve learned that being a rebel isn’t always comfortable or safe, but it is necessary.

Today, that lived experience shows up in how I lead, teach, and partner with others.

I’m known for designing innovative, scalable programs that integrate academic support, leadership coaching, and community building. I’ve facilitated training, learning communities, and institutional initiatives focused on persistence, identity development, and holistic student support. Through assessment-informed practice and culturally responsive facilitation, I help organizations shift from reactive approaches to proactive student success ecosystems.

As a facilitator and coach, I create reflective spaces where professionals can strengthen their leadership practice, clarify communication, and build sustainable team cultures. I also support individuals in translating their experiences into compelling impact narratives, helping them frame their skills and talents in ways that resonate with employers and decision-makers. My approach blends innovation, reflection, and storytelling so people can communicate not just what they do, but the value and transformation their work creates.

As a researcher, I explore leadership and the experiences of minority communities in the workplace. My work centers equity, inclusion, and the stories too often left untold, using scholarship, strategy, and practice to create spaces where everyone has a voice.
